Introduction

According to www.psychologytoday.com, “Irritability is something we all experience, but what sets it apart from other emotional states is the extent to which it pollutes the emotional atmosphere around us. Indeed, irritability is the carbon monoxide of emotional pollutants. One person’s irritable mood can release negativity and stress-inducing vibes that negatively impact the entire office, household, or classroom.”  This article will explore ways to prevent episodes of irritability with Bipolar Disorder.

Distraction

One way to prevent episodes of irritability with Bipolar Disorder is to exercise.  Do something besides let your thoughts control your mind and be irritable.  Go for a walk or a run.  Enjoy the outdoors and nice weather now that summer is approaching.  Take pictures, while you are outside.  Exercising releases endorphins, which enables you to feel better and have more energy and also enables you to have a better mood and in return become less irritable.

Meditation

In addition to distraction through exercises, consider meditating.  Meditating enables you to release toxic thoughts and feelings from your mind and calm down.  In return, when you release these toxic thoughts and feelings from your mind and calm down, you become less irritable.  If you want to become even more creative, consider journaling how you feel after a meditation session.  This will enable you to see how you feel on a sheet of paper.

Get Quiet Or Alone Time

It is also important to have “me time.”  According to www.psychologytoday.com, the following can be noted:

Find a quiet place to think things through, or to disengage from the commotion and activity around you. Irritability can be your mind’s way of alerting you that you need a break, so take one. Listen to music, do some stretching or yoga, meditate, or take a bubble bath. When you’re done, take a deep breath and prepare yourself to re-engage so your system isn’t shocked back into irritability once you re-enter the fray.

Conclusion

To end this article, three specific tips to deal with irritability from Bipolar Disorder have been mentioned.  They include distraction, meditation, and having quiet or alone time.  For distraction, consider exercising.  Go for a walk or a run.  For meditating, consider meditating in a quiet place.  This will help clear your mind of nervous energy and help detox your thought process of negative energy.  On a third and final note, for “me time,” consider going in a quiet place to “let lose” and disengage from the world.
